What is the order of operations in excel?

The order of operations in Excel follows a specific sequence. It is also known as the BODMAS rule.

  • Brackets or parentheses are performed first.
  • Then, the Exponents or powers of any value (i.e., exponential, logarithmic, root) are calculated.
  • Multiplication and Division are performed next. Excel will follow from left to right in order of operation.
  • Addition and Subtraction are calculated last. Again, Excel will follow from left to right.

It is essential to use brackets when there are multiple arithmetic calculations in a single formula, and you want Excel to apply a certain operation first. Otherwise, Excel will follow its default order of operation, which can result in incorrect results.
